KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin to improve the appearance and profile due to moderate to severe submental fullness known as a "double chin.” 

 

​The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

 

During treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, with the injection process taking approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile. The area is numbed beforehand, and most people experience a temporary burning sensation. There is minimal downtown after each treatment, but do expect there to be a period of noticeable swelling.

For optimal results, most patients typically need 2-3 vials per treatment over 3-4 treatment sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart. It can also be used on small pockets of fat elsewhere on the body including the bra line, thighs, arms, and abdomen.
